Le Gaudin Springtime Newsletter

Spring is on its way and there is so much to tell you.

Old Year, New Year

Word really got around about the delights of our Normandy retreat last year. So much so that we were fully booked from July right through. Our New Year three day extravaganza was a fantastic success, including a pre-New Year's Eve dinner on the 30th, which meant we could all really get to know each other. Then, the big night! With balloons and streamers decking the Ballroom ceiling, gorgeous place settings, festooned with gifts and masks, it was like stepping back into a Victorian feast. The masks were specially bought in from Cox & Co and boy what an effect they have on people. Goodbye inhibitions!

New Years Eve was followed by a treasure hunt in the grounds and surrounding area, using the Pilgrims' Walk as the main track for clues. On their return, guests tucked into bacon baguettes, coffee or a beer, followed by a hearty but competitive game of Trivial Pursuit.

Plus çâ change

What have we changed at Le Gaudin since last season? You will certainly see a few additional nick knacks about the place. Clive is now working on some wonderful new menus for the year and I am fortunate enough to be the guinea pig.

Clive has also been busy making some changes to the kitchen. We had hoped that this would be completed by the opening season, but sadly no. I rather suspect that the reason has something to do with the amount of time he spends watching Master Chef, Saturday Kitchen and good old Nigella (what is it men find so special about her?).

Scott is still living in Australia and is now head Pastry Chef over 2 restaurants in Fremantle and Perth. He keeps threatening to return but at the moment is happy and content.

We are considering opening at Christmas this year. Visit the website and you will see a couple of pictures of the house as it was decked out last year. It is such a perfect setting for the festive period.

The early bird...

Bookings are coming in at a good pace, so do place your bookings for that special weekend away where you know that you will be made most welcome. Wonderful rooms, that special ambiance and Clive's culinary delights.

If it is an extra special weekend, perhaps a wedding anniversary or special birthday, please let us know in advance so we can add those extras touches that Le Gaudin is known for.

Hope to see you soon,

Kind regards,

Denise & Clive
